Privacy, in plain English.

This policy covers the Springboard app and this website. We wrote it in plain English on purpose, and counsel is reviewing it. The plain-English version is the one we hold ourselves to.

The short version

  • We collect what the app needs to work: your account, your profile, what you post, where you check in, and what you buy.
  • Location is used only while the app is open, to show nearby studios and to verify check-ins. Never in the background.
  • We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
  • You can delete your account from inside the app. It's gone within 30 days.

Your account

You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. We store the email on your account and, for Apple and Google, the identifier they give us so you can sign in again. If you sign in with Apple and hide your email, we only ever see the relay address Apple provides.

Your profile

Your profile holds your name, handle, photo, home city, how long you've practiced, and, if you teach, your professional profile. Your handle, photo, passport, and reviews are public by default; you can limit your passport to followers in Settings → Privacy. You choose whether people can see the events you're going to.

Location

The app asks for location permission with this exact sentence: “Springboard uses your location to find nearby studios and verify studio check-ins for your passport stamps.” That is the whole use. Location is read only while the app is in the foreground, never in the background, and we don't keep a history of where you've been. A check-in records the studio and the time, not your coordinates. You can turn location off in iPhone Settings at any time; search still works by city, and you can check in by scanning a studio's code.

What you post

Reviews, photos, posts, comments, check-ins, stamps, RSVPs, trips, and lists are stored so the app can show them. Reviews, photos, and posts are public and carry your handle. Messages are private to the people in the conversation, but like everything else they can be reported, and a reported message is read by a person on our team. Photos are compressed and re-encoded on your phone before upload, so we never receive the original file.

Purchases

Passport Club memberships are sold and billed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We never see your card. Apple's receipt is checked by RevenueCat, the subscription service we use, which tells us whether your membership is active. RevenueCat receives your Springboard user id and the purchase details, nothing more.

Notifications, calendar, and camera

If you allow notifications, we store the device token that lets us send them, and you choose which kinds in Settings. If you add an event you RSVP'd to to your calendar, the app asks for calendar access at that moment and only writes that event. The camera is used for the photos you add to reviews and your profile, and to scan a studio's check-in code.

Measurement and crash reports

We use PostHog to count how the app is used: which screens are opened, searches run (we record how long the search was, not what you typed), check-ins, reviews posted, memberships started, and the like. Every event we send is on a fixed list in the app's code. Events are tied to your Springboard user id, not your name or email, and we have IP-based location lookup switched off. If the app crashes, Sentry receives a crash report with the app version and the device model, tied to your user id only; no personal details, screenshots, or screen contents. Neither tool is used for advertising, and the app never asks for Apple's tracking permission because it doesn't track.

Studio photos from Google

Where a studio hasn't added its own photos, the app may show the studio's Google photos live, on that studio's page only. Your phone requests the image from Google directly, so Google sees that request the way it sees any image load. We don't store those photos. There's more on listings in where our listings come from.

Who handles your data for us

  • Supabase hosts the database, file storage, and sign-in.
  • Apple and Google handle sign-in if you choose them, and Apple handles payment.
  • RevenueCat checks subscriptions.
  • PostHog counts usage; Sentry receives crash reports.
  • Resend delivers the email we send from hello@letsgospringboard.com.
  • HubSpot holds the website's early-access list if you joined it.

Each one processes data on our instructions to run Springboard. None of them may use it for their own marketing. We don't sell, rent, or trade your data, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Email

We email you from hello@letsgospringboard.com about your account, things you asked about, and, if you opted in, news. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link that works the first time. If you ask a teacher-training program for information through the app or the site, your message goes to that program and we keep a copy for 90 days, then delete it.

Reporting and blocking

When you report something, we store the report, your chosen reason, and any note you add, so a person can review it. The person you reported is never told who reported them. Blocking is kept on your account so neither of you sees the other; the person you block isn't told.

Deleting your account

Settings → Account → Delete account. Your profile, reviews, photos, check-ins, stamps, messages, trips, RSVPs, and notification tokens are deleted, your reviews come off studio scores immediately, and if you signed in with Apple we tell Apple to disconnect the account. Everything is gone within 30 days. What we keep: a record that the account was deleted, and the minimum moderation records needed to keep the community safe. If you can't get into the app, email hello@letsgospringboard.com from the address on your account.

Your rights

You can see and edit your profile in the app, export or correct anything by emailing us, and delete everything as above. We answer every request from the address on your account.

Children

Springboard is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. Our Terms set the minimum age to use the app; if you believe a child has an account, email us and we'll remove it.

The website

On this website we count pageviews with PostHog and, if you join the early-access or instructor list, we store your email and the campaign tags from the link you arrived on, in HubSpot. Unsubscribe any time, or write to us to have your email deleted entirely.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we tell you in the app before it takes effect.
